More Fondant!

I'm so glad that I'm not actually eating all these cakes. This is the latest one that I did in my class tonight. I know it looks kind of weird...its really just supposed to be a cake of all the different things we learned tonight...nothing too amazing.

I think this looks like a piece of fabric or something draped over the side. I really didn't like the way it was looking at while I was in my class, but after looking at these pictures....it doesn't look to bad.

The flower cut outs are really supposed to be daisies....I was just using them as a filler on the cake...we will learn how to make the daisies next week...so stay tuned for more pictures.

I can see there being a lot of potential for Fondant...I just wish it tasted better. When I use up all that I've bought, I'm going to try to make some from scratch...it uses marshmallows...I've heard it tastes better.

Another cake.

Its not the way the final cake was supposed to look...
but here is my final product.
I really didn't have enough time to make 40 roses plus leaves.
I also didn't make enough cake to make it tiered.
I'm happy with the outcome though...

Ivy's Bday cakes!

Cake one: Confetti cake with buttercream icing.

Cake two: Strawberry cake with hand-made whipped cream icing.
Fresh strawberries are placed randomly around the back of the cake.
I think the Cake two was the most liked...or atleast I liked it the most!

Grand Finale!

My last class was yesterday. We only had to bake one cake for course 2, but we put everything on it that we did throughout the course. However almost everything that you see was done yesterday because I didn't like the flowers I had made during the classes.

So here it is. The cake was supposed to be white, but I wanted a brown basket. If I were to do this again, I would probably make the top of the cake a different color than the basket...maybe white. However I do like how the basket weave turned out!I think this is my favorite part of the cake. I was trying to make a little vine down the side.
The bird is supposed to have a black dot for an eye and an orange beak...but I left those out. I was so happy with the way the bird turned out that I didn't want to screw it up by adding stuff. I had made two birds, but the other one the beak broke off when I was taking it off the wax paper.

This is the mound of flowers on the top left of the cake.
There is a MOUND of icing under those flowers...lol.
I didn't realize that was how it was going to all be attached.
Major sugar rush for whoever eats this piece.

Time to Eat!

Well, we finally ate the cake last night. I found an apron for Ivy at Hobby Lobby for only $0.40!!! So of course I bought it. Here are some pictures of her in it and the family eating the cake.

What a big piece!

Ari licking the icing off my finger!

The cake was good, a little dense though. Not sure why. The flower we use is white whole wheat...maybe thats why. Oh well, it was good and I will have more practice getting it right with the rest of the baking I need to do for the class. This week I get to make cup cakes.

Its finished!!!

Me at my cake class.

My almost finished product.

A little closer look at the rainbow.

A closer look at the border.

The final product. (except there could be some words, but I couldn't think what to write)

Don't forget to tell me what you think! Leave me a comment :)

Part 1

Ok...technically this is part 3 or 4. :)

I baked the cake from scratch. It is a double layer yellow cake with icing in the middle. My icing is supposed to stiffen up just a little to make it easy to smooth, but I'm thinking I didn't get the correct consistency and therefore it isn't going to smooth as nicely. I am to wait 30 min...so we will see. You may not be able to tell from this picture, but the icing is a sky blue. I hope the rest of it turns out cute tomorrow. I'll post pictures of the final product!
